Shrines of Alpine Europe with Oberammergau–Faith–Based Travel

Reaffirm your faith on this tour through Alpine Europe. Along the way, visit some of Alpine Europe’s most important spiritual sites and pilgrimage destinations and collect your thoughts in contemplation of the exceptional natural beauty of the mountainous areas you will be travelling through.

The tour highlight is definitely the Passion Play in Oberammergau. Performed by Oberammergau residents every 10 years as a thank you for the village being saved from the Black Death, this reenactment is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Another interesting visit is Melk’s 11th-century Benedictine Abbey. Words cannot describe the splendor of the abbey with its ornate library, frescoed ceilings, stunning high altar, marble statues, and 210-foot-high cupola.

You’ll also visit some of Alpine Europe’s most important pilgrimage sites. Since the Middle Ages, the Benedictine Abbey of Einsiedeln has been one of Switzerland’s most important pilgrimage sites dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Here, visit the magnificent 18th-century baroque monastery and the chapel that is home to the Black Madonna, carved in the 15th century. Altötting has been the spiritual focal point of Bavaria for more than 1,250 years and Germany’s main Marian pilgrimage site. Here, enjoy a guided visit of the Old Town and see the large-scale panorama created in 1902 portraying Jerusalem and the Crucifixion of Christ. You can even join the evening Mass and candlelight procession. You’ll also have the opportunity to celebrate Mass at Vienna’s magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

All of this and more—including time in the picturesque towns of Lucerne and Salzburg and the vibrant city of Munich—are included on this faith-based tour designed for savvy, value-minded travelers. Accompanied by fellow believers, it’s an Alpine Europe vacation you will cherish in your memories for a long time.
